The LSF story is one of feeling and empathy for children in the villages; it flashes back to the year 2002, when our founder, Nitin Orayan, took a sabbatical at a farmhouse on the outskirts of Mumbai at a village named Savroli.
Even when he returned to the city, his moments with the children lingered in his mind, and became his inspiring pedestal of a deep calling, to support village children's education.
Two years later, in September 2004, Nitin decided to plunge into village life to do something that had touched a deep chord inside him. In April 2005, he met with a senior Western couple, Tino & Kathrina who offered Nitin to run a month long course for young undergraduates, to teach English for better confidence.
Led by some of his young teacher colleagues, Nitin bicycled down to nearby primary and middle-level schools in the vicinity to speak with formal school teachers about sending their students to the programme. Support poured in from different areas and on August 15th, 2005, amidst much gaiety and enthusiasm, the 'Learning Space' center was inaugurated.
Over this course of time, LSF has established a strong base and able networking with government schools and communities of Thane and Palghar districts. This has fostered the growth of many infrastructure and student empowerment projects along with the primary movement.Read more
